How to look after your seat covers

Dye from new clothes (such as dark jeans) can rub off and stain the surface of the covers. Avoid sitting down in clothes that are excessively damp or dirty, as constant friction causes dust and dirt to become deeply embedded in the fibres or pores of the material.

Only use cleaning products that are suitable for the material of your seat covers (automotive fabric, faux leather or Alcantara). Avoid household all-purpose cleaners, baby wipes or abrasive chemicals at all costs, as these can damage the stain-resistant treatments and cause the fabric to fade prematurely.

Although seat covers are designed to protect your original seats, they too can suffer damage. UV rays and high temperatures inside the car can dry out the faux leather or cause the fabric to fade. Regular use of sunshades will significantly extend the lifespan, elasticity and appearance of your seat covers.

Contact with trouser rivets, keys in back pockets or your pets’ claws can cause irreversible tears and snags. Always check what’s in your pockets before sitting down, and take particular care when getting in and out to avoid damaging the sides of the cover.

If you’ve opted for faux leather or synthetic leather covers, cleaning them with a product containing conditioner every few months will help maintain their suppleness and prevent them from cracking due to temperature changes. If they’re made of technical fabric, gentle dry brushing is the best way to lift the fibres of the fabric.

Vacuum regularly, paying particular attention to seams and folds. Sand and solid dirt act like sandpaper when you sit down, causing the cover to wear out prematurely. To clean them, always use clean microfibre cloths and gently wipe the surface, without rubbing too hard.
