How to keep your headliner in good condition

The roof is a delicate area. Avoid brushing against it with your hands, head or bulky objects when loading the car, to prevent the fabric from getting dirty or the edges from starting to peel away due to friction.

If you need to dust it, gently wipe it with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Never rub vigorously or use high-powered vacuum cleaners directly on the fabric, as the suction may cause the fabric to separate from the inner foam.

The biggest enemy of headliner upholstery is moisture, as it breaks down the factory adhesive. Never apply water directly, or use injection-extraction machines or steam cleaners on this area.

If a stain occurs accidentally, use a specialised dry foam cleaner. Apply the product to a microfibre cloth (never directly onto the ceiling) and dab gently at the stain without soaking the surface.

Persistent high temperatures inside the car dry out and weaken the adhesive that holds the roof in place. Always use a sunshade when parking in the sun and, if possible, leave the windows slightly open to allow air to circulate.

The headliner fabric is highly porous and quickly absorbs odours and particles from the air. Avoid smoking inside the vehicle to prevent the fabric from yellowing, and ventilate the cabin regularly.
